20th M.S.G MEETING CONCLUDED IN HONIARA

The 20th Melanesian Spearhead Group meeting concludes in Honiara today.

The conclusion coincides with the announcement and signing of the20th MSG Leaders’ Summit Communique by all MSG Leaders.

Among the major outcomes is the granting of observer status to theWest Papua United Liberation Movement under the regional and international category – representing Melanesians living abroad.

The Leaders also approved the associated membership of Indonesia-representing its five provinces.

Speaking today, the MSG Chair, Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare said the acceptance of new family member during the summit shows the desire to promote the Melanesian culture and traditional values.

“The acceptance of new family members this week is a testament to our Melanesian values of cooperation and our desire to promote our Melanesian cultural and traditional values, our identity.”

The Prime Minister adds, MSG Leaders value the efforts of partnership in addressing the aspiration of Melanesian countries.

“We value our collaborative efforts in addressing our aspirations for a Melanesia that is stable, prosper economically, promotes quality and inclusivity and promotes sustainable development. We are grateful for your support to the MSG and we look forward to enhancing our relations with you all for the future wellbeing of the people.”

The Prime Minister also launched other initiatives discussed during this week’s MSG Leaders Summit.
