Fishermen from Mbita’ama in North Malaita have raised concern over floating debris found in their seas, saying it is threatening their seashores and fishing activities.

SIBC Stringer in North Malaita John Andrew Kiri reports, fishermen in the area discovered floating debris – a first of its kind to be seen in the area.

Kiri reports fishermen are concerned the debris will affect their reefs and seashores.

He also reports the floating debris disturbed fishing activities in the area for the whole of last week.

“If the debris found its way upon any of or beautiful shores, it will cause a huge problem for that area as there’ll be dirt all over the shore and also destroying coral reefs if there are any in the area”, said Mr Kiri.
