Police in Bougainville and the Solomon Islands are working on plans to ensure police presence at the Papua New Guinea-Solomon Islands border.

Bougainville Assistant Police Commissioner Paul Kamuai said there has been an exchange of plans and meetings with the Solomon Islands Deputy Police Commissioner to see police presence at the border.

Commissioner Kamuai said a joint statement will be released soon by the Solomon Islands Police Commissioner and himself once the plans are in place and ready to roll out.

He said Police officers, Customs, Labour and Immigration officers will all be working together to monitor the border.

Kamuai said a meeting with the Bougainville Government will be convened soon to discuss costs of the operation.
