FAMILY PROTECTION ACT YET TO BE IMPLEMENTED: PS SIGIMANU
The Family Protection Act is yet to commence, says the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs Ethel Sigimanu.
Mrs Sigimanu made the remarks when asked at the Save the Children’s official launching of the research: Child Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children in Solomon Islands in Honiara.
She said preparatory work has not yet started which should enable the Act to be implemented.
When asked by SIBC News about the delay, Mrs Sigimanu said they are waiting for the Minister for Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs and Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs to reach an agreement before the Act can be enforced.
The Act was passed in Parliament last August.
