Children are important to nation building and must be valued, says the Minister for Youth, Women and Children Affairs in the Western Province.

Carlos Kisina made the statement today, during celebrations to mark the International Children’s Day in the provincial capital, Gizo.

The theme of this year’s Children’s Day is “Promoting safe learning children’s environment, free from violence for sustainable development – Children are our future”.

The Provincial Minister said children are an important asset for nation building and that they must be valued.

Mr Kisina also says the Western Provincial Government believes investing in children through quality education is a right step to
creating a brighter future.

He also said the Provincial Government is committed to improving education infrastructure both at rural and rural communities in the Western Province.

He says this includes constructing new classrooms, sponsoring teachers and other necessitates to ensure children’s learning
environments are clean and safe.

Meanwhile, a representative from Save the Children, Revlyn Patovaki says children are often victims of Violence, War, drug abuse and Poverty.

She adds children are also vulnerable, and it is high time words must result in good deeds to bless the children.
