The swearing in of the new premier was conducted around 11am this morning, presided by the Speaker of the Assembly Greg Sokeni.

The election of the new premier comes after a political rift in the provincial government which  saw several members of the former Watson Qoloni executive walk out and team up with the non-executive group in the 16-member provincial assembly.

The former premier was overthrown during a motion of no confidence tabled and passed against the former premier and his executive last week.

Deputy Premier, Deputy Speaker and Provincial government ministers will also be sworn in today afternoon according to Mr Sokeni.

The rift came about after the former premier, Watson Qoloni, terminated the Finance minister earlier this month. The former Finance minister walks out and convinces another executive member and deputy speaker who also resigned.

The provincial health minister also tendered his resignation and joined the non-executive side adding the total number of the current non-executive to 10 and executive with six.
