The Democratic Coalition for Change (DCC) Government has plans to take over the RIPEL Plantation estate and use it for commercial agriculture.

National consultant on agriculture, Edward Kingmele announced the plan during the launch of the second phase of the rural development project last week.

Mr Kingmele says commercial agriculture is the Government’s flagship under the productive sector within the sectoral reform Policy.

“The Government has gone ahead to establish work towards what the Policy is saying an outright acquisition of the RIPEL Island Plantation estate. Such a property, such an area is very vital to production because we have the coconut industry, we got cocoa, we got tourism, we got fisheries within that locality. And therefore very important policy the Government is pushing at the moment.”
