Leader of the Parliamentary Independent Group, Manasseh Maelanga has called on the government to give due respect to Constitutional Post holders established under the National Constitution.

Mr. Maelanga made the call in light of the recent appointments of political appointees by the Democratic Coalition for Change (DCC) Government.

He said the appointment of political appointees on the level of Super Scale Four equivalent to Permanent Secretaries is unreasonable as they are established by the Constitution specifically to carry out administrative, technical and accounting functions.

He said having political appointees on the same level with PS’s calls for serious re-consideration as Permanent Secretaries are appointed by virtue of the National Constitution, the highest law of the land.

Mr. Maelanga said this reduces the integrity and respect that comes with the constitutional post.

The East Malaita MP adds political appointees should be subservient to permanent secretaries regardless of their qualifications and experience.

He calls on the government to reassess its direction on how it deals with political appointments while other government sectors are in need of resources which should be prioritised.

Meanwhile, Mr Maelanga also supports the Chief Justice’s call while opening this legal year.

He said the government should take into account the substance of the message aired by the Honourable Chief Justice.

He said the Judiciary sector needs to be supported and provided with the appropriate resources and manpower by any ruling government.
