DENDE JOINED THE COUNTRY TO CELEBRATE 37th ANNIVERSARY
Dende Community in Central Islands province joined the country to celebrate the country’s 37th Independence Anniversary today.
The celebration coincides with the opening ceremony to harvest traditional root crops which are not allowed to be harvested over a five-year period due to their high chance of extinction.
Jimmy Bosamata reports, the celebration also includes local food preparation and sports activities.
“We have also joined the Solomon Islands 37th Independence Day celebrations by blessing a swamp taro (kakake) that has been blessed five years ago and that is because the root crop is under threat of extinction. This ceremony includes food preparation as well as organising fun activities.”
