The National Agriculture Research Institute and its partner, the Ministry of Agriculture today harvested a plot of sweet potatoes planted for trial at Aruligo, West Guadalcanal.

The harvest took place at Ghorabau, one of the three areas where the trial was undertaken.

The other two are Doma and Vatukulau villages.

The aim of the trial project is to assist local farmers to learn new techniques and knowledge on how to grow crops to adapt with the effects of climate change.

The trial involved the planting of eight different types of potato.

At the harvest today, Agriculture provincial representatives and guests evaluated each potato mound according to its yield, shape, texture, colour and taste.

Extension officer Gordon Pinau ,says the results of the trial will be made known to the public at a later time.
