Ulawa island in Makira Ulawa Province is currently experiencing an increase of Malaria and diarrhoea cases.

A John Tahonga of Rongkokopo village in Ulawa told SIBC News, adults and children were mostly affected by the diseases.

He says the lack of Nursing staff for Tawairamo and Gaupalae clinics have worsen the availability of medical services to the people.

“At the moment we do not have nurses available there to attend patients, so we have to walk or hire a truck which is very expensive to get to our only clinic at Taheramo.”

Mr Tahonga adds people are calling on responsible authorities to address their immediate need of nurses.
