Provincial Police Commander (PPC) for Malaita Province, Alfred Uiga has appealed on people in the province not to take the law into their own hands.

He made the call in light of three separate incidents which took place in Malaita yesterday.

One involves the burning down of the Agriculture office at the provincial capital Auki while two others involved bodily injuries and the death of a victim.

Speaking to SIBC News today, PPC Uiga says these are not a good start for Malaita Province and people should not take the law into their own hands.

“Indeed it’s not a good start for Malaita Province so what I would appeal to people in Malaita Province is that whenever there’s an issue please do not take the law into your own hands. There are ways for us to go about resolving and sorting out things. The moment you take the law into your own hands, remember that the law can also protect fellow citizens of this country.”

SIBC News understands a number of suspects have been apprehended by Auki police, awaiting further investigations into the incidents.
