A new E-Reporting and E-monitoring project on fishing activities within the country’s Exclusive Economic Zone will be implemented next year.

This was part of the MOU signing between the World Wild Life Fund-WWF and Pacific Islands Tuna Industry Association -PITIA recently.

Confirming this at the official launch of the MOU partnership, Executive Officer of PITIA, John Maefiti said Solomon Islands is the first Pacific country to implement such project.

“Projects we are looking forward to being rolled out next year are the E-Reporting and E-Monitoring in Solomon Islands in which we will be starting off with installing cameras and all required equipment fitted onboard the first ten boats to monitor all fishing activities occurring within our fishing grounds and Solomon Islands is the first to implement this regulation in the Pacific region.”

The project is a collaboration amongst WWF, PITIA and the Ministry of Fisheries in 2017.
