FORMER CENTRAL BANK EMPLOYEE JAILED FOR EMBEZZLEMENT

Former Central Bank employee Philip Bobongi will serve nine years in jail, for stealing more than $1.7 million of old bank notes.

Justice Leonard Maina delivered his sentence this morning at the High Court.

Bobongi was convicted in June this year on 39 counts of money laundering and two counts of larceny and embezzlement.

He stole more than $1.7 million of old bank notes between 2007 and 2009 when the bank was in the process of destroying them.
