Gizo-Kolombangara constituents in the Western province will go to the polls tomorrow to elect a new Parliament representative.

Five candidates are contesting the seat including the wife of the ousted M-P Lanelle Tanangada and former Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo.

SIBC Gizo FM’s Aaron Szetu said the five candidates hadbeen campaigning widely since nominations opened last month.

Mr Szetu said the people are excited and ready to cast their votes.

“There are 12 polling stations, 6 for Kolobangara and 6 for Gizo,” he said.

“The atmosphere is that a lot of people are excited, and they are in various camps with their candidates, ready for tomorrow.”

In a related but sad news, a former MP and strong supporter of one of the leading contesting candidates collapsed following this afternoon’s campaign.

Reports from Gizo said, the prominent leader in the Gizo Kolombangara Constituency was reported to be among Gordon Darcy Lilo’s strong supporters, campaigning actively for his candidate earlier this afternoon.

The deceased was himself a former Government Minister responsible for Information.
