The Joint Civil Society Group, JCSG, is calling on the government and responsible authorities to immediately investigate a failed Non-Directional Beacons, NDB, provincial airports rehabilitation project.

JCSG says the project to rehabilitate and re-install NDBs at Kirakira, Auki, Munda and Rennell airports come under the Ministry of Aviation.

It explains, in November 2012 the project was awarded to a local communication firm for more than 2 million, however the contractor technically failed leaving these airports without functional NDBs to date.

In the meantime, JCSG claims, the Ministry of Aviation is re-issuing a tender for the same airports through the Central Tender Board.

The Civil Society group says if these allegations are true, Transparency Solomon Islands also supported the call for an investigation into why the 2 million dollar project disappeared into thin air.

TSI believes the nature of the failed NDB project is suspicious.
SIBC News hopes to run a response from the Ministry of Aviation separately.
