The caretaker Prime Minister Rick Houenipwela today opened the 2019 Tourism In Focus at Coral Sea Resort in Honiara.

Led by the Tourism Solomons, Solomon Airlines and Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the event gathered local tourism operators, government officials and other organizations to discuss how the local Tourism Industry can proactively collaborate to increase visitors arrival this year.

Tourism Solomons used the event to present the local tourism industry’s 2019 Marketing Plan for discussions.

Local tourism operators had contributed a lot in the discussions based on issues the country is facing in the travelling and tourism sector.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Houenipwela confirmed among other priority sectors known as the country’s economic contributors, Tourism Industry was at the top of government plans.

He says the government believes that tourism will replace the revenue gap left by the forestry sector.

“The tourism sector will be an important sustainable source towards plugging this revenue gap, but it must increase and improve,” he said.

” The government has already prioritized tourism among other productive sectors, and therefore line ministries responsible for those sectors  must proactive in developing their cases for a strong and robust economic growth.
