The national government will have to relook on its approaches to implementing the Malaita national projects in its effort to ensure they are implemented in the coming years.

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare highlights this during his meeting with the Malaita provincial executive delegation last Friday.

Prime Minister Sogavare says, the government understands the need to recast approaches in implementing these national projects.

Mr Sogavare says the government may be ‘talking to the wrong people’ on its effort to facilitate implementation of the projects.

He says, this has been the case with the newly constructed Manaoba airfield, where the government has spent over 60 million dollars but is still closed due to ongoing issues amongst resource owners.

He says, the government intends to allow the Provincial government become the implementing agency other that the national government, and to equip the Malaita Provincial Government with resources to enable it implement those national priority projects.

He explains, this is important especially in addressing land issues in Malaita – the major stumbling block to effectively implement national projects on Malaita Province.
