The Honiara City Council has opened the newly built dental clinic at Mataniko, New China Town in Honiara.

The building which costs the Council $2 million and a $1.3 Million assistance from the Ministry of Health and Medical Service will house a dental clinic, women’s health clinic and other health services for the Honiara public.

“I would like also to inform the general public of Honiara that we have in here a building that consist of dental chairs as a dental. We also have a room allocated for the women’s health clinic. We will also have a clinic within this building allocated to address issue of our mothers and I am looking forward to friends of Honiara City Council and donors of Honiara City Council to assist the Council in this building with two machines. I am looking for a scanner for our women, very important, without the mothers none of us would be around here.”

Meanwhile, the Honiara City Lord Mayor says the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force has been allocated the front section of the building.

“We also have the front part of this building, first block in front allocated to the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force purposely so that they can look after the Dental clinic, the Pikinini clinic and the Mataniko clinic and also looking after areas within the China Town area, which is a commercial area. That is the idea behind having the police within the same building. Before we remove the police post we had some issues with the police. I said to the police I will take care of you and I will provide part of the building as a police post.”

SIBC News understands the newly built dental clinic will be a relief to Honiara’s general public in terms of access to dental health services.
