The Honiara City Council with the support of the Honiara Economic Development Support Project – HEDSUP has installed 20 rubbish bins in the City.

A media statement from HCC says the bins are placed along the streets from the Art Gallery to the Honiara Casino at Point Cruz.

It says this is HCC’s pilot project to assist the public dispose their litter at the right place and also for efficient collection of rubbish.

The statement adds plans are in place for the expansion of the project to other identified areas within the City.

However, the public is advised to use the rubbish bins appropriately and take good care of them.

The bins are funded by the HEDSUP project and implemented by the Works Division of HCC.

SIBC News understands the rubbish bins are intended for pedestrians use only and not for commercial use by business houses.

Meanwhile, the Honiara City Council through its Economic Development Support Project  has also installed a new ice machine at the Honiara Central Market.

The ice machine was intended to provide the fish vendors with quality ice to help preserve their fish for public consumption.

SIBC News understands the ice machine was installed in May this year.
