The Honiara City Council (HCC) has proposed to enforce a new waste segregation system for all residential areas within the Honiara City boundary.

The new waste segregation system is designed to effectively manage different types of household waste produced in the city.

Deputy City Clerk Fred Warereau told SIBC News they are looking at managing waste, starting from the household.

“We are looking at waste segregation starting from the household, so in a way the Council will be looking at areas where probably we have garbage bags that will have different kinds of colours to represent what type of waste to be placed in them, or bins which will be available and can be bought to be used in households and be collected at a certain time by our trucks.”

The new waste segregation system is part of the Council’s new waste management system for Honiara.
