The Honiara City Council (HCC) is monitoring the prices of locally grown products at the Central and Kukum markets to stop vendors from using the upcoming Pacific Games as an opportunity to increase their prices.

The Honiara Council Office

Market Master, Nelson Sakui confirmed Council officers were assigned to monitor prices at the market and any vendor found to put unreasonable prices will be called for questioning.

“My office will maintain a strong stance which is aimed at preventing vendors from taking advantage of the Pacific Games event’s increased demand to unjustly increase prices, ensuring fairness for consumers.

“We will be monitoring price hikes before and during the games event,” Mr Sakui said.

Meanwhile the Market Master denied unconfirmed reports that prices at both Markets will increase in the coming days.

He warned vendors that any vendor found increasing prices without valid reason will be called in for questioning.

Both markets will maintain normal opening hours throughout the duration of the Pacific Games.
