The Special Coordinator of the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI), Ms Justine Braithwaite has visited the Western Provincial capital Gizo last Friday.

A statement from RAMSI says during the visit Ms Braithwaite met representatives of the provincial government, the Western Provincial Council of Women, the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and the Solomon Islands Correctional Services.

The statement says the official visit is one of her top priorities since becoming RAMSI’s Special Coordinator as RAMSI through the Participating Police Force (PPF) is still assisting the RSIPF in the province.

Meanwhile, Mrs Braithwaite also had a discussion with Deputy Premier of Western Province Mr Wayne Maepio.

Both leaders discussed possible security arrangement for the elections across Western Province, in which the PPF expects to assist the RSIPF to ensure the election is free, fair and peaceful.

SIBC News understands Ms Braithwaite also briefed the Deputy Premier on RAMSI’s priorities after becoming a policing mission in July 2013.
