The Central Bank Governor has told the Australia Solomon IslandsBusiness Forum – high population growth is a serious hindrance to economic growth in Solomon Islands.

Denton Rarawa made the statement today, also saying the high population growth results in Solomon Islands high unemployment rate and this becomes a challenge to economic growth.

He said the challenge is to equip the young population with skills and knowledge.

“As I said it’s a challenge, we have a huge population of young people and with the right policies and actions they can be turned into opportunities that could benefit our country as well.”

Meanwhile, the Central Bank Governor  says Solomon Islands needs to stand out and improve its image to attract business investment that will provide more employment opportunities.
