The Ministry of Home Affairs is looking at securing coaches from Cuba to train the country’s local boxers for the 2023 Pacific Games.

The Minister of Home Affairs Manasseh Maelanga says this is one of the benefits Solomon Islands will derive from its bilateral relation with Cuba.

“My Ministry is trying secure coaches from Cuba for boxing and we are working on that Mr Chairman through our Ambassador in Cuba so as to prepare our local boxers for 2023 so those are some of the areas I can respond to my good friend Leader of the Parliamentary Independent and there are some more areas that other Ministries are also working on, but for my Ministry, we are trying to look at sports.”

The Minister was responding to the Leader of the Independent group regarding what benefits, apart from looking after our medical students, will the Cuba mission bring to the country.
