By Mary Manelegua in Auki
The Japanese Embassy, through its Grassroots and Human Security Project, donated a secondhand ambulance to the Fauamabu Rural Health Clinic in Auki, Malaita Province.
The donation aims to improve healthcare accessibility in the region.
Speaking during the handingover yesterday, Japanese Ambassador to the Solomon Islands, His Excellency, Keiichi Higuchi urged communities to take ownership of the vehicle.

“I want to reiterate my sincere wish that the Fauambu community take ownership of this ambulance car and use it for many years to come,” Ambassador Higuchi said.
Ambassador Higuchi also acknowledged the collective effort of the Fauambu community, nursing staff for turning the project into reality.
“Thanks to the help and contribution of the Fauambu community and the hospital staff and everyone who contributed to this project, we now have this ambulance bus in front of us,” Higuchi added.
He noted that the Embassy receives numerous project applications annually, and this one was successful due to the dedication of those involved.
Allen Saefoa, the Nurse In-charge of the Fauambu Rural Health Clinic, expressed gratitude to the Japanese government for the support.
He highlighted that the ambulance would significantly aid in the daily challenges of transporting patients, a common struggle for the clinic.
“Now that we have received the ambulance bus, it will help our daily struggles of transporting our patients like we face everyday in Fauambu rural clinic” Saefoa said.
Saefoa extended his thanks to the government and people of Japan for the generous donation.
