Negotiations with landowners for the implementation of the Kukum Highway road rehabilitation project will soon be concluded.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID) Henry Murray told the Public Accounts Committee today.

Mr Murray said a majority of land issues hindering the road works has been settled.

He says tenders will be ready by the end of this year if things are progressed well.

“A lot of these issues relating to landownership along the highway has been settled and we only left with one especially on our bridges regarding a landowner, but I understand the AG is working on that contract and that is soon to be signed by the owner if he agrees and then we can advise JICA to tender the project in Japan. Looking at the pace at which things are happening at the moment I think we should complete that by the end of the year.”

SIBC News understands, the Kukum Highway road rehabilitation project will be implemented by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
