Malaita Province, one of the populated provinces in the country, has experienced a peaceful Easter celebration.

Confirming this to SIBC News, Provincial Police Commander for Malaita Province Alfred Uiga says people have truly celebrated with the true meaning of Easter.

“The Easter weekend here in Malaita, particularly Auki was very peaceful and quiet, meaning that people mean business in their Easter celebrations.”

Meanwhile, Acting Police Commander for Honiara Juanita Matanga denies recent reports alleging that members of Honiara Police used weapons during an operation at White River Community during Easter Sunday.

“We don’t have anything to do with firearms, these are part of our PRT capabilities that I’ve mentioned. People must learn to understand that RSIPF is yet to rearm and what we are doing is that we have increaed our capaliliy to a different standard where before police are using hand-held tear gas, but now we have to use morden equipment to deal with such situations.”

SIBC News understands most parts of the country have celebrated the holy season with religious gatherings and sports.
