A man charged for using offensive language against Malaita and Guadalcanal provinces has appeared in Court on the weekend.

Deputy Commissioner Operations, Gabriel Manelusi told SIBC News in an interview the man was arrested after police received a formal complaint.

“Police has received a formal complaint and the Guadalcanal Police conducted a full investigation into that swearing and also other related criminal offences and a man was arrested and charged to appear in Court this morning.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Manelusi says a traditional ceremony to settle the matter was held last Friday.

“In relation to that swearing, Police has investigated the incident and there is a protocol ceremony in terms of custom so in that manner, the reconciliation group with the police and the stakeholders will sit down together for a proper reconciliation by the parties involved, that what happens.”

SIBC News understands, the swearing incident happened years ago but compensation claims have reemerged.
