A fresh to strong winds warning and moderate swells have been issued by the Solomon Islands Meteorological Services.

The Met Office says winds of 15 to 25 knots and moderate swells of 2.5 meters remain in force for waters of the eastern region, including Makira, Temotu and Rennell and Bellona provinces.

It says this also includes the eastern parts of Malaita province, but is slowly easing within the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the Met Office says the situation is due to a trough which lies North of the Solomon Islands whilst a general easterly trade wind flow persists over the islands.
