Martin Fini is the new Premier for Malaita Province

Hon Martin Fini has been declared the new Premier for Malaita province.
Hon Fini stood unopposed after his rival, the former Acting Premier, Hon Glen Waneta withdrew his candidacy an hour before the Premier’s election this morning.
As such, the Speaker, Ronnie Butala declared Hon Fini as the new premier unopposed in accordance with the Provincial Government Act 1997.
Mr Butala said the new premier was sworn in soon after the election.
He said the premier is expected to appoint his provincial portfolios soon.
The speaker acknowledged the people of Malaita province, communities including the police in maintaining law and order during the election process.
He also acknowledged the former Premier, Daniel Suidani in leading the province to this far.
