The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) has issued a Heavy Rain and Flooding ‘WHAT TO DO’ information in force for Choiseul, Isabel, Western, Malaita, Central, Guadalcanal, Makira and Temotu Provinces.

This follows the Heavy Rain alerts issued by the Solomon Islands Meteorological Service since 6am yesterday.

The information alert says people living in or close to large rivers and streams are strongly advised to take this information seriously and take action.

It adds village leaders and families should listen to the radio for emergency information through SIBC, FM stations and HF Radios. They should also check that their neighbours and vulnerable people have received this advice.

The information also advised that people in low-lying coastal areas under threat of flooding must prepare or move to higher ground if required and continue to listen for information updates.
