Oti reminds PAC to produce the report before next sitting
Speaker of the National Parliament Patterson Oti reminds the Public Accounts Committee to furnish his office with a copy of the Public Accounts Committee Report into the 2020 National Budget no later than 4 December 2019.
Speaker, Oti issued the reminder as Parliament was on Special Adjournment from today to 4 December – as requested by the Chair of the Public Accounts Committee to complete PAC hearings into the 2020 National Budget.
He said this reminder is in compliance with Standing Order 69 (1) G.
“From the Speaker’s chairs, in compliance with standing order 69,1 G, the report of the Public Accounts Committee must come before the parliament resumes on 4th December.”
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare reiterates, the PAC Chair must heed the Speaker’s reminder and make sure the report is ready before 4th December.
Meanwhile, PAC Chair and East Honiara MP, Douglas Ete assured Parliament this morning, from today, PAC will meet into late evenings in order to fulfill the necessary requirements and have the Report ready on time.
“We will do everything to ensure the report is ready before that next sitting.”
Parliament is on Special Adjourned to 4 December 2019, following the Public Accounts Committee’s written request to the Prime Minister, requesting two weeks to complete inquiries on the 2020 National Budget.
Moving the Special Adjournment Motion on the floor of Parliament this morning, Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare said, the two weeks requested by PAC will lapse on 4 December.
The hOuse will be adjourned till 4th December so that the PAC can prepare and complete the reports as requested.”
The 2020 Budget will be the first for this Government after it came to power following the April election.
