Former Guadalcanal Premier Stephen Panga will stand trial at the Central Magistrate Court on September 10th.

Mr Panga is charged with one count of abuse of office.

A new trial date was suggested but Deputy Magistrate Ricky Iomea said the September date must be maintained.

He however, ordered for the case to be heard before Principal Magistrate Jim Seiuika on Friday if a new lawyer should be appointed to represent Mr Panga.

Mr Panga’s current lawyer will not be available for the trial in September.

The former Premier allegedly misappropriated around ten thousand dollars as false rates payments from a member of the community when he was in office.

The police anti-corruption unit arrested him in October last year.

He is currently on bail.
