Library Advisor of the Honiara City Council Library, Daffeny Smithers has thanked parents in Honiara for bringing their children to the National Library Open week.

Speaking to SIBC News Ms. Smithers says she is really impressed with the public turn up.

“It’s been going fabulously. We’ve had a lot of children, which are the main emphasis of this week, to get little children borrowing books from the library so the children’s section has been absolutely numerous all the time. It’s been wonderful, we have some colouring activities going on a colouring competition.”

The Library week ends this Friday.

Meanwhile, Ms. Smithers says the Library week will coincide with the commemoration of International Literacy Day tomorrow.

“So International Literacy Day tomorrow is the big day and we have the parade through the town at 8.30am and then at the museum grounds there will be a big event happening there from probably around 9.30am-10.00am as the welcome and that will go through till about 1.30pm where there’ll be activities and all sorts there.”

The International Literacy Day will be hosted by the Literacy Association of Solomon Islands.
