PM: Gaena Alu Movement’s Chief Guest
Prime Minister, Hon. Manasseh Sogavare is the chief guest this weekend at the Gaena Alu’s 15th anniversary after the passing of its founder, the late Paramount Chief Pelis Moro.
The anniversary theme is “Embracing God’s Divine Grace through Cultural Knowledge and Wisdom.”
The Moro movement, now known as the Gaena Alu movement is a cultural movement that emerged on the Weathercoast of Guadalcanal in the late 1950s.
The extent of the movement’s influence in the face of today’s civilization is not immediately known.
Addressing the Movement’s followers at its Komuvaolu Boko, Prime Minister, Honorable Manasseh Sogavare acknowledged the important celebration to mark the life of a man who has done so much to preserve the customs and traditions of Guadalcanal in a very organized and structured manner.
Prime Minister Sogavare commends the efforts made by the movement in keeping law and order, peace and unity amongst our people and instilling discipline in our communities by way of respecting our customs and traditions.
He said, the theme underpins the philosophy underpinning the movement.
“It acknowledges that the sources of our cultural knowledge and wisdom is God. This is consistent with the bible, the Prime Minister underlines.
The Prime Minister said, our cultural contexts must in many ways influence positively our government policies in order to embrace the cultural aspirations of our own people. Custom and culture, therefore are at the forefront of our developmental projections as it connects through the human culture and into the land upon which we stand.
Gaena Alu Movement’s strong hold is on the eastern part of the Weathercoast and adjacent hinterland.
The Prime Minister and his delegation returns to Honiara Monday Morning.
