Prime Minister Hon Manasseh Sogavare has arrived in Honolulu Hawaii ahead of the World Conservation Congress.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) congress begins today.

The Prime Minister’s Press Secretariat said this congress will be convened under the theme, ‘Action for Sustainable Pacific Ocean’ and should see the formalisation of a 2030 Pacific Ocean-wide partnership.

The Prime Minister will attend the two-day Pacific Islands Conference of Leaders’ (PICL’s) Standing Committee’s Special Meeting commencing Tuesday at the East-West Centre in Honolulu.

The conference is convened every three years to discuss critical issues of common concern to the PICL Member States.

Deliberations at this year’s PICL Special Meeting will be convened under the New Perspectives on Regional Cooperation and Regional Architecture, Enhancing Pacific Islands-United States Engagement; the 2016 US Presidential Election: Implications for the Pacific and other topics.

The major engagement between the Pacific Islands States and the USA was articulated through the ANZ/US Treaty- a mutual security and defence pact signed between the USA, Australia and New Zealand.
