Police in Taro, Choiseul Province have arrested a 52-year-old man on Monday for allegedly raping his 15-year-old grand-daughter in Choiseul Province.

A Police Media statement said the offences allegedly took place at different times between June and September 2018 in Sube Sube, Choiseul.

The incident was reported to Taro Police last Monday and the arrest was made the same day.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province, Superintendent Vincent Eria said it is another sad incident involving a very young girl and it is even worse, because the suspect is the girl’s own grandfather.

Police said, the man allegedly committed the offence inside their dwelling house at night while everyone was sleeping.

PPC Eria appealed to the family members to refrain from taking the law in to their own hands while police investigation is underway.

He again called on men to respect women and young girls as such incidents have the potential to affect the rest of their lives.

He warned Police will not tolerate such behaviour in the communities.
