POLICE ARREST OVER VIOLENT DISPUTE

The Royal Solomon Islands Police (RSIPF) has made several arrests in relation to a dispute between two communities at Paradise community, Western Province.

Police Commissioner Frank Prendergast confirms, officers from the Police Response Unit were deployed to the community this week to assist in addressing the issue.

Commissioner Prendergast says, police are in the process of charging two persons involved in a violent dispute.

Mr Prendergast was speaking in a media conference today.

“Police are currently deployed at Paradise in Western Province dealing a dispute between two sections of the community in Western Province. A number of people have been arrested and we are in the process of charging two people involved in a violent dispute. Those people are in Gizo, the Patrol Boat, and the Police Response Team are still in Paradise but we expecting to be able to withdraw them in the near future.”

Meanwhile, he adds, the police is working very hard to reconcile the two communities.
