Police investigates arm robbery incident at Panatina
Police in Honiara are investigating an armed robbery incident that left a couple with serious injuries at the Panatina area on 9 September 2023.
Police Commissioner Mr. Mostyn Mangau said that the incident occurred between 2 and 3am.
“The couple were Solomon Island citizens with their three children who are still in Korea.”
“Both were assaulted with sharp objects, which caused serious injuries on their bodies.”
“The wife had a deep cut on her head but struggled to assist her husband to the hospital during the incident,” Commissioner Mangau said.
He said some valuable properties including cash were removed during the robbery incident.
He said police were alerted of the incident by the medical team who attended the couple when they arrived at the hospital.
The Police Commissioner added it is sad to have such a horrific incident occur and strongly condemned such action.
The public is advised to report any information related to the incident to the police so that any suspect could be dealt with.
In a media statement the national government affirmed that this particular attack was made not only on an innocent and peace loving family but on good-citizens who are contributing directly to the country’s development.
It said the judicial arm will review relevant legislation with the aim to impose tougher penalties to deter further attacks and protect citizens of the country.
It warns that such heartless attacks will not be tolerated and reminds Solomon Islanders to be law abiding and stand united in protest against evil attacks on fellow citizens.
