Motorists, vehicle owners and pedestrians should expect police on Honiara roads as operations to address traffic congestion in the capital begins.

Traffic congestions have become a daily hiccup on city streets as vehicle imports continue to increase.

Acting Police Commissioner Juanita Matanga said police officers will be out on the road to ensure a steady flow of traffic.

“Police officers will be on the road to ensure a steady flow of traffic and I’d like to ask for public support and cooperation with the police in ensuring that police carry out their work in a manner which everybody, including our international guests to enjoy the upcoming events. At the same time I’d like to give precautions that police will not tolerate any anti-social behaviour, but deal with it accordingly.”

SIBC News understands, police began operations yesterday to lead to the 36th Independence Day celebrations that begins tomorrow.
