Secretary to Cabinet, James Remobatu has urged Permanent Secretaries to lead the financial reforms within their ministries.

Addressing Permanent Secretaries in a Financial Management Workshop in Honiara Monday this week, Mr Remobatu said Permanent Secretaries must strike a balance in their output delivery, and their accountability on how they spend public funds.

Mr Remobatu said Permanent Secretaries have the same destination and a common purpose.

He said Ministries spend public funds, and Permanent Secretaries cannot promote production and ignore accountability.

The workshop was organised by the Ministry of Finance and Treasury under the banner of “Building a Stronger Public Financial Management System is Everyone’s Business.”

A government statement said the workshop wants to identify the responsibilities of Permanent Secretaries under the new Public
Financial Management Act.
