R.A.M.S.I OFFICIALS MET WITH P.I.F.S’s DAME MEG TAYLOR
Senior officials of the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI), today met with the Secretary-General of the Pacific Islands Forum, Dame Meg Taylor, in Honiara.
Dame Meg is currently in Solomon Islands, her first visit since being appointed to the position last August, to meet with Solomon Islands Government.
RAMSI Special Coordinator, Justin Braithwaite said they highlighted the assistance the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force receives from the RAMSI Participating Police Force to help it build its capacity and deliver modern and professional policing services across the country.
Ms Braithwaite also said they outlined the RSIPF’s exemplary performance at last year’s National General Elections and the strong work the force is doing to combat family violence.
She said the Mission’s engagement with the Forum will be particularly important this year, as consultations with Forum member countries on the Mission’s draw down will begin in the coming months.
She said RAMSI looks forward to working closely and cooperatively with Dame Meg and the Forum on these and other important matters during her term.
RAMSI was formed under the auspices of the Biketawa Declaration, an agreement of all leaders of the Pacific Islands Forum.
The Mission reports to the Pacific Islands Forum as its official oversight body.
