The Honiara City Council has announced all betel nut vendors should sell their produce at the Kukum Market.

City Clerk Charles Kelly told SIBC News yesterday the Honiara City Council has made a call to betel-nut vendors to use the Kukum Market because the Council secured the site purposely for the buying and selling of betel-nut.

The City Clerk also said betel nut vendors must relocate to the Kukum Market because of the Council’s seven metre by-law.

“Right now only the Kukum area is identified by the Council as the area in which people can sell their betel-nut and this also applies under the Councils Seven metres By-law. At the moment within the Honiara City Boundary the council has no more alternative land it can offer to people except for those I’ve mentioned. Apart from that there’s none.”
