The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has confiscated three firearms following the shooting incident at Mono, Shortland Islands recently.

Police Commissioner Frank Prendergast confirms two rifles and a pistol were confiscated, adding that police operations are continuing.

“You are aware that we are running an operation up in the Shortland islands on Mono island, responding to some issues around logging and also allegations of armed people from Bougainville being in Mono. Those operations are continuing, at this stage the only update I can give you is that we’ve confiscated three firearms, two rifles and a pistol and investigations in relation to those are continuing. We’re also working on improving our border management arrangement with other stakeholders.”

The Police Commissioner adds, border security is an important issue for the country and as a policy priority for the government, he is optimistic police can work together with internal stakeholders like the Customs and Immigration to address it.
