Ragomo joins Christmas celebration with inmates and families

Guest of honour Elliot Ragomo at a Christmas party for inmates at the Rove facility

Inmates at the Rove Correctional Centre in Honiara today held a Christmas party with their families — and a professional fustal player.

Elliot Ragomo was the guest of honour at the annual event hosted by the Correctional Services of Solomon Islands in collaboration with Sycamore Tree Prison Fellowship.

Ragomo gave presents to children of the inmates and spoke to them about coping with the absence of their parents who are incarcerated.

He also encouraged the children to be good citizens of the country and spoke about his experience as the only foreign player in Brazil’s senior professional futsal league.

CSII Deputy Commissioner, Operations William Ahea said the event gave the inmates a chance to spend time with their families and celebrate Christmas with them.

“All these prisoners who attended the program are low-risk prisoners at the Rove facility,” Mr Ahea said.

“The presents were arranged by the Sycamore Tree ministry with other stakeholders outside, then given to the children of the prisoners.”

Mr Ahea said various business houses in Honiara supported the event, and similar events will be held in all correctional centres across the country during the holiday season.
