The Government has today handed over office stationery, office furniture, IT equipment and kitchen equipment to the Auki Correctional Centre in Malaita Province.

It included: tables, chairs, cabinets, computer desktops, printers, toners, kitchens utensils, a projector, and cartons of A4 paper rims.

Speaking at the handover ceremony at the Auki Correctional Centre today, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry said human security and human rights are important in Solomon Islands.

Lennis Rukale also said many Solomon Islands societies have been affected by the lingering causes of ethnic conflict or “tensions”, social fragmentation and lack of basic social facilities.

Mr Rukale said because of this factors, the work of peace-building and conflict resolution remain a substantial component in
post-conflict Solomon Islands.

SIBC News understands the Premier for Malaita Province, Edwin Suibaea was amongst the guests at today’s handover event.
