An RAMSI Crocodile Safe team has set up crocodiles traps early this week at Siara Village, North-East Guadalcanal.

The team is responding to calls for assistance after a crocodile killed an elderly woman from the village last month.

The villagers also reported sighting an increase in the number of crocodiles in the area.

SIBC’s stringer Gabriel Riotarau reports the group’s team leader Grim Novel Harris says the team is very concerned about the increase of crocodiles in the area.

“Local people here need to be aware he says of the danger crocodile has to kill them, He says the local community is very happy to see them come and do thee work there. They will return to the town today. However, they have called on the villagers in the surrounding areas to look after the equipment they have set up here to catch those dangerous animals.”

The team arrived at the village Tuesday this week.
