The Rural Development Program (RDP) has recently completed its one-week training in Kirakira, Makira Ulawa province.

A student Journalist from the Solomon Islands National University (SINU), Lionel Taorao said the training was the first for RDP’s sub-project implementation Committee in Makira Ulawa province.

He said the program was facilitated by officers from the head office in Honiara and Kirakira.

He adds, a total of 80 participants from 20 wards across Makira Ulawa province attended the training.

Provincial RDP Support Team Leader for Makira Ulawa province, Moses Haganitoto said the training was to boost the sub-project implementation Committee in the management and implementation of the project in their communities.

Meanwhile, RDP Assistant Coordinator, Freda Siwainao told participants to make good use of the privilege their communities have in being selected for the program.

She called on the newly elected Premier of Makira Ulawa, Hon. Stanley Siapu and his executive to support RDP programs in its activities.

Siwainao said RDP only provides funding while project implementation depends on the communities.

She adds RDP empowers rural communities to manage and make decisions on their own projects.

Premier Siapu assures that his government will continue to maintain the good relationship with RDP in the province.
