Government-sponsored law students at the University of the South Pacific’s Emalus Campus in Port Vila, Vanuatu are safe and sound.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, Dr Franco Rodie confirms the students are safe and sound despite having lost vital personal properties..

Dr Rodie told SIBC News, concerned parents and guardians must be assured, all the students are now in care centres in Vanuatu.

“We would like to assure the parents of our students that all 144 students in Emalus Campus are safe and are still trying to grapple with what has happened, particularly their properties lost as well as where they are located. At this point in time they are being taken to care centres and being looked after by the Vanuatu Disaster Management Council.”

The Permanent Secretary added his ministry will update parents and guardians as soon as further information from the students come to hand.
